The goal of a reception is not only to celebrate the couple’s marriage, but to also thank guests for coming to support and be a part of the day. This leads to the second goal of a reception: to provide a atmosphere in which the wedding guests are able to have a GREAT time!
In order to have a great reception, we need to understand what bad experience guests of had at a wedding.
According to The Knot, here are the top eleven complaints from wedding guests in no particular order:
1. The DJ was obnoxious or played lousy music.
2. The music was TOO LOUD!
3. Speeches were TOO LONG and we couldn’t decipher the words.
4. We didn’t know anyone at our table.
5. I resented paying a dollar to dance with the Bride.
6. We stood forever in the receiving line.
7. We had too much time to kill between ceremony and reception.
8. The centerpiece was so large that I couldn’t see or talk to guests.
9. I was offended I had to pay for drinks.
10. The Bride and Groom didn’t stop by to say hello.
11. I was never thanked for my gift.
What are your thoughts? Have you every experienced any of these?
Tomorrow, part 2 of Tips For a Great Reception will talk about how to overcome these issues.

Back when I was still Blu Sky Designs, I created a DIY Wedding Coloring Book Template that is easy to recreate and a great little treat to give to your younger guests. Since it has been a year and a half since I posted it, I thought I would bring it back to the front of the blog for people to use.
DIY Wedding Coloring Book Template
Click on the link above to download the coloring book. Depending on your computer’s speed you may have to wait a few minutes for the download link to pop up. When you click download, the coloring book should open in an editable form in Microsoft Word.
The coloring book is formatted to be folded in half. You can bind it by punching two holes in the seem and tying it with ribbon, or you can find a super long stapler and staple it.
Printing instructions:
Use card stock for all pages (since we are printing front to back)
Load one page at a time (I know this is a pain in the butt, however, it seems to be the best way.)
Once the first side of the page as printed turn it over and print the next side. (You will have to run a couple of trial and errors to figure out how your printer works.)
Please feel free to leave a comment with questions and/or tips and I will update the template as necessary.

Peel and stick photo frames??? Yes please! I was shopping at a local bookstore yesterday and came across these adorable REUSABLE peel and stick photo frames. I even bought a pack of the black for myself. So far I love them! The frames are available in black, pink, and zebra (glam) and would be perfect for an event. You could create a wall collage (get your permission from your venue first) or even put a piece of plastic over the picture (but under the frame) and stick a grouping on your dance floor. Too much fun!!!
Stop by Butch & harold to see all their goodies. I am dying to try some of their wall art.
